Glucosamine is a natural compound present in almost all tissue and an important part of the structure of bones and cartilage, as well as other body tissues. Glucosamine is utilized by the joints to repair and strengthen the cartilage and promotes overall joint and connective tissue health.* In a three year, double-blind, placebo-controlled study published in the Lancet, it was found that glucosamine may protect joints from further damage. Over the course of the study, individuals given glucosamine showed some actual improvement in pain and mobility, while those given placebo worsened steadily. Additionally, X-rays showed that glucosamine treatment prevented progressive damage to the knee joint.80
